This Privacy Policy applies to the browser extension "Chat2File" (the "Extension", "we", "us"). The Extension reads the chat content you select on supported AI websites and exports it into multiple file formats.

The Extension only runs its content script on the following domains:

Outside the sites above, the Extension does not inject scripts or read page content.

2. Information We Process

When you use export on a supported website and choose a message range, the Extension processes the selected conversation content to generate your export file. That content may include:

  • User input: Text you enter into the conversation.
  • AI responses: Returned text, code blocks, lists, tables, quotes, and rendered math.
  • Related display elements: Certain images, links, and other elements associated with the exported content.

The Extension also stores a small amount of settings or state information, such as help panel status, and may output necessary error logs in the browser console to help diagnose export issues.

We do not require registration information such as your name, email address, or phone number. We do not read your browsing history, cookies, passwords, or clipboard.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information above only to provide and improve the Extension’s core features, including:

  • Generating export files: Converting selected content into the requested format and completing the download.
  • Supporting image and PDF export: Completing export flows for those formats.
  • Improving the product experience: Saving minimal settings and state.
  • Troubleshooting: Recording necessary error information to investigate export failures.

We do not use this information for advertising, cross-site tracking, profiling, or selling, renting, or sharing your personal information with third parties.

4. Do We Send Data to External Servers?

  • We only provide document conversion and export functionality, and we do not store your conversation content.
  • The Extension does not include third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, and it does not report your content to third-party analytics platforms.

Please note that when you visit supported websites, your browser communicates with those websites as part of their normal operation. That communication belongs to the website and browser workflow, not to any additional data sharing initiated by the Extension.

5. Permissions Explained

The Extension declares the following permissions in manifest.json:

  • storage: Save minimal settings and state.
  • tabs: Access tab context required for export workflows and open related pages when needed.
  • debugger: Support PDF export capability.
  • offscreen: Support image export capability.
  • host_permissions: Restrict the Extension to supported AI chat sites.

6. Storage and Retention

  • Conversation content: Used only as needed to complete the export and not stored on our servers.
  • Settings and state: Stored in the browser’s extension storage until you clear the data or uninstall the Extension.

7. Sharing With Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to processing, and request portability of your personal information.

Where CCPA/CPRA applies, we also explicitly state that we do not "sell" or "share" your personal information.
